Frigging outstanding move. Love it.
Purely from the perspective of statistical probability, trading a #16 for a #20 plus a #53 is a clear win. Of course we won't know for at least a few years how all the picks involved will turn out, but the Red Wings improved their odds of getting at least one solid NHLer out of the 2016 draft with this move. Even if the deal was just these three draft picks changing hands, I would have called it a very good trade.
The fact that Detroit also unloaded Datsyuk, though, is astounding. I'm not surprised the cost to move Pasha was lower than many expected, but I did expect that the Wings would have to at least give something up (like a third rounder or maybe Jurco). I didn't expect them to actually improve their draft odds at the same time.
As for Vitale ... well, he's a replacement level player at best. But he only costs $1.1 million and only for one more year. The Wings can bury him in Grand Rapids all year if they wish and it'd only cost them $166k against the cap. Considering the alternative was $7.5 million, I'm not complaining.
Bravo, Kenny. |

and many others.
In reality, they will still have cap space without giving up assets, it was very possible they would pass on Fabbro, give up an asset and still swing and miss on Stammer.
This is more than what DET expected, great move. |

SVEN dont quote me on this, but I heard Vitale may wind up on LTIR due to surgery this summer. So even the 1.1mil may be saved.

I like it too but why do I have a feeling we are just going to resign Quincey or helm?

Honestly, i understand that either chychrun OR Farbro, and both could end up being amazing players,
But moving Datsyuk contract was necessary and literally moving down only 4 spots and grabbing an additional 2nds makes it an outstanding deal for the wings
great great trade |
